Robot Zombie – Page 1

Lighting strike! Thunder crash!
Breath of life, forgotten trash.

This will be a departure from my webcomic norm as I scramble to crank out a short story for Halloween. The goal is a painted page each day this week and after completing this first one I can already tell it’s going to be tough to keep up… but I think I can do it!

Painting pages without any line art to guide me is something I haven’t done much in Photoshop but Mitch Watley gave me a good tutorial a year or two back and I tried to use his methods combined with a few tricks I picked up watching Kazu Kibuishi during his Juneau lecture last spring.

I reaaaally like how it turned out.

I think the style of the story was influenced by Baby’s First Internet, a short nursery rhyme by Kevin Fanning and Kean Soo. I’ve always liked good rhyming stories, I think it’s because mom would drag home Shel Silverstein books and dad would recite Robert Service all the time.
