Hourly Comic Day 2013

Monday, February 4th 2013 by Pat

Blargh.

So there’s this thing called Hourly Comics Day. It’s a great idea, for each hour of the day you draw a little comic. I love it. I also suck at it.

I spent all day Friday taking notes and thinking about what I wanted to draw. I came up with a few sketches throughout the day and hoped to whip them into something presentable after things wound down at the gallery show (we’re exhibiting some of Lee Post‘s work this month).

I totally failed.

I came back to it for a bit on Saturday, pecked at it on Sunday, and finally wrapped it all up this morning.

It took me three extra days to complete and every moment (ok.. not every moment) was filled with frustration.. but you know what? Sometimes art is frustration.

It’s frustration and frustration and frustration and then.. maybe… if you’re lucky… a glorious breakthrough.

This was a good challenge and hopefully I’ll be able to feel better about it next year. For now, it’s a reminder that I’m nowhere near where I want to be with my drawing abilities.

If you want to see it done right, check out Vera B’s hourlies or go paw through the forum posts.

This is actually funny stuff. If I think about snap shots of my day – some days would be totally bizarre, much like my cooking. I wonder if there are any long term patterns you would see?
